Go to Start > Run > type “services.msc” and click Enter. Double click on the service that you want to get rid of and change the start up type to disable. Example of some services are – Alerter, Distributed Link Tracking Client, Fast User Switching, Indexing Services, NetMeeting Remote Desktop sharing, Telnet, Secondary Logon and workstation etc. You need to do it safely and disable on those services which really need to stop.

Step 4: Clean up Windows XP Hard Drive

Over time, your system’s hard drive store lots of junk files, temporary installation files and other files that you never need to use again.
